Sosnowiec is located in the Silesian region.
It is the largest city in Zagłębie Dąbrowskie in terms of population. The origins of Sosnowiec date back to 1902, when it received city rights. However, it should be remembered that the history of settlement in the area of today's Sosnowiec dates back to Piast times.
The name of the city comes from the pine forests that originally covered this area in the 19th century.
