Jeff had always been a man of routine. Wake up at 6:30 AM. Coffee by 6:45. Out the door by 7:15. No deviations, no excuses. He found comfort in predictability, in the ticking of time like a metronome guiding each step of his life.
He lived in Bellmare, a sleepy coastal town where the sea whispered secrets to anyone willing to listen. Jeff wasn’t one to listen, though. Numbers, spreadsheets, and logical conclusions were his companions. He was an accountant by trade—meticulous, precise, and organized.
One cold autumn morning, Jeff’s routine was disrupted by something unusual. The antique wall clock in his hallway—the same one his grandfather had left him—had stopped ticking. The hands were frozen at 3:33 AM.
Jeff tapped the glass lightly. Nothing. He opened the back, checked the mechanism, replaced the batteries. The clock refused to move.
