How to recognize Germany

Germany has white plates with a blue EU strip on the left. Town entry signs are yellow with black text, route numbers are yellow for Bundesstraßen and blue for Autobahns, and roadside delineators are white with a black band and a rectangular reflector. Bike lanes are common, often paved in red. Houses have steep tiled roofs, villages are tidy, and a church spire marks almost every town.

Wind turbines and flat farmland point north. Forests and rolling hills point to the middle. Alpine scenery with wooden houses and painted facades points to Bavaria in the south. The former East is flatter, with more concrete apartment blocks and cobbled village streets. Along the Rhine and Mosel, vineyards climb steep slopes.
