France

From Normandy to Provence - master France's legendary diversity!

Explore France in WorldGuessr! Western Europe's largest country spans from the Channel coast to the Mediterranean, from Atlantic beaches to Alpine peaks. Master the regional diversity: Brittany's granite villages, Provence's terracotta and lavender, the volcanic Massif Central, Alsace's Germanic half-timbered houses, and the flat northern plains. France's distinctive road signage, plane tree-lined routes nationales, and varied architectural traditions make regional identification both challenging and rewarding.

How to recognize France

France has white plates with a blue strip on both ends. Town entry signs are white with a red border, and route numbers come in colors: yellow panels for D roads, red for N roads and motorways. Roadside delineators are white with a red band. Many junctions are roundabouts. Villages have stone houses with shutters, roads are often lined with plane trees, and pharmacies show a green cross.

The north is flat wheat country. Burgundy and Bordeaux are vineyards. The south has red Mediterranean roofs, pines and dry hills, with the Alps and Pyrenees on the borders. Brittany has granite houses and bilingual Breton signs. Alsace has half-timbered houses that look German. Corsica is mountainous with its own Italian-sounding place names.
