Busy Centrs is known for its many early-1900s art nouveau buildings with elaborate facades. The Freedom Monument is an obelisk commemorating the Latvian fight for independence, and sightseeing boats cruise through shady parks on City Canal. The imposing Latvian National Museum of Art shows 19th- and 20th-century local works, and the area is also home to the Latvian National Opera and Latvian National Theatre.
