There are four main parts of the Appalachian Mountains, Ridge and Valley (Alabama to Pennsylvania), Appalachian Plateau (Alabama to New York), Blue Ridge Mountains(Georgia to Maryland) and New England. New England is rugged and rocky with a tree line sometimes. The forests are mostly coniferous. The Appalachian Plateau has long deep gorges and short, eroded Mountains. The ridge and valley has long ridges and deep valleys. The blue Ridge Mountains look Similar to the ridge and valley but have more trees and generally look more Mountainous.
Lush, green waterfalls are mostly in the southern Appalachians
This map includes Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, New Jersey and Alabama. Just for note some of these places technically aren't part of the Appalachian mountains like the Adirondacks.
